Prof Dr Hedef ÖZGÜN

Prof. Dr. Hedef Özgün, born in Izmir in 1967, is a distinguished figure in the field of general surgery, with a focus on breast surgery and coloproctology. His journey in medicine began after graduating from Izmir Bornova Anatolian High School in 1985, followed by his completion of medical education at Ege University Faculty of Medicine. Dr. Özgün further honed his skills through compulsory service at Muş State Hospital Emergency Department.

His surgical expertise was cultivated during his specialty training at Izmir Atatürk Training and Research Hospital, where he obtained his surgical specialization in 1996. Following this, he served as a general surgeon at Manisa Demirci State Hospital before fulfilling his military service in the Çanakkale 1st Corps 5th Commando Regiment from 1997 to 1998.

In 1998, Dr. Özgün embarked on his tenure at Adnan Menderes University, Department of General Surgery, where he has since made significant contributions to the field. Over the years, he has achieved notable milestones in his academic career, attaining the titles of Assistant Professor in 1999, Associate Professor in 2004, and Professor in 2009.

Dr. Özgün's commitment to advancing his expertise is demonstrated by his attendance at the Oncoplastic Surgery course in Düsseldorf, Germany, in 2014. This course equipped him with the skills necessary for performing numerous breast-conserving surgeries, sentinel lymph node biopsies, oncoplastic surgeries, and prosthesis applications. Notably, more than half of his surgical practice revolves around breast disease surgery.

His dedication to research is evidenced by the publication of numerous scientific articles on breast cancer in national and international journals. Dr. Özgün is also recognized for his proficiency in proctology, particularly as one of the most experienced surgeons in laser hemorrhoid surgery in Turkey. Additionally, he is among the few physicians in the country practicing Video Assisted Anal Fistula Treatment (VAAFT).

Beyond his surgical expertise, Dr. Özgün is fluent in English and German, enabling him to communicate effectively with a diverse range of patients and colleagues. His unwavering commitment to patient care, coupled with his extensive experience and academic achievements, solidify his standing as a respected authority in the field of general surgery.
