Our Dentists

Dr. Michael Browning's journey in dentistry began in Winfield, Kansas, where he completed his education at Winfield High School. He furthered his studies at Kansas State, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. During his time at Kansas State, Dr. Browning took the initiative to establish the KSU pre-dental club, serving as its president for two years before graduating.

He then pursued dental school at the University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry in Lincoln, Nebraska. It was during this period, between his third and fourth years of dental school, that he married Sarah, a fellow dental school classmate. In 2005, both Dr. Michael and Dr. Sarah earned their Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) degrees from Nebraska.

Dr. Michael's affinity for working with children naturally drew him towards the field of pediatric dentistry. Right after dental school, he was accepted into the two-year pediatric dental residency at Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas. This residency program was affiliated with two esteemed Dallas hospitals: Children’s Medical Center and the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Alongside his training in dental school and community dental clinics, he gained invaluable experience at these nationally recognized children’s medical care facilities. He completed his residency in the summer of 2007, obtaining his certificate in pediatric dentistry. Subsequently, he and Dr. Sarah relocated to Fort Collins, Colorado, to embark on their careers in private practice.

During his time in private practice, Dr. Michael pursued board certification with the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. In March of 2008, he successfully completed the two-part board certification process, earning him the designation of a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Browning was also honored with the Pugh Award by the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, a yearly accolade bestowed upon candidates who scored in the top 3 percent on the written qualifying examination. Furthermore, he holds the distinction of being recognized as an active member with fellow status within the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD).

Both Dr. Michael and Dr. Sarah are proud Kansas natives, and their roots drew them back to the state when Dr. Michael decided it was time to establish his own practice. Prior to the completion of Sunflower Smiles, Dr. Browning worked with the pediatric patients at the Douglas County Dental Clinic.

The couple is blessed with two wonderful children, Carina and Miles. Outside of their professional lives, they find joy in spending quality time together as a family. Dr. Michael has a diverse range of interests including photography, travel, archery, hunting, scuba diving, backpacking, and camping. Additionally, both Dr. Michael and Dr. Sarah have dedicated their time and expertise to volunteering in dental missions. They have contributed to nine of the Kansas Mission of Mercy’s (KMOM) dental projects, and recently volunteered with the Sunflower Smiles staff at the KMOM event in Kansas City, KS. They have also participated in five international dental missions, including trips to Honduras, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic.
